homage to Paul Celan
In cooperation with Kaya Dalina Wolff (Groningen) and Helly Oestreicher (Amsterdam) in the Folkingestraat Synagoge in Groningen (1998).
My installation consists of eight paintings (81cmx64cm) inspired by the eight couplets of Paul Celan’s poem ‘Stimmen’ (voices) from the collection of poems ‘Sprachgitter’ (speech-grille). Corresponding to the title ‘Speech-grille’ my 8 ‘voices’ were hung on the iron grill which separates the sacral room of the synagogue from the public one. In addition to the exposition I organized together with the ‘Paul Celan Genootschap’ and with Kaya Dalina Wolff a symposium in cooperation with the Universities of Nijmegen, Groningen and Utrecht.
